Looks like Speedy might be a Hermann's. I'll send a shout out to @HermanniChris He's very good at knowing those types of tortoise.

(Species, not breed! :D )

Hi, the species of your tortoise is Testudo graeca. "Greek tortoise". To learn the subspecies, we would need plastron shots and some other clearer ones as well.

Oh my gosh - I am so much a novice at this - I even had to look up what a plastron was!! Are we right in thinking she is a girl?

It's a female. It's most likely a Testudo graeca ibera (ibera Greek tortoise), but it's always possible it could be a mix between two subspecies. Definitely seems to be at the very least part ibera.

Looks like a girl... She seems to be pyramiding a bit, so just keep her nice and hydrated, and have humidity in her home too.
