Well Gomez and Morticia are legit -- at least in the eyes of the California Dept of Fish & Game. Yay! But how ImageUploadedByTortoiseForum1368305996.714475.jpgdo folks use these tags? My torts came without license plates...

BTW, I'm really impressed by the California Turtle & Tortoise Club, which handled my permit app in less than a week. Amazing how a little volunteer organization can be so efficient!

Pick a spot on the tortoise that doesn't get too much rubbing action. The DFG advises you to put it on the last scute right above the tail, but in my opinion that's not a good spot. Anyway, clean off the scute real good and dry it well. Then place the sticker in the center of the scute and press it in place so no edges are sticking up.

Well, with these excavators there is really no good spot....lol....I blinged the guys here at the scute above their tails---the tags I was sent were gold so it appears like they have little license plates over their rumps....only the old man here has an in tact bling--the others are all scuffed up...but, I have the actual paper permits and a pic of each so if I should have to show their papers I have them....

I used a two part epoxy (non toxic type) from lowes and I used a touch around the edges as well as a drop on the back of the permit...but be sure to not get it onto the growth line area :D

Thanks, ya'll. Their scutes are so little, still. This will be tricky. Also, they both like to scrape against rocks and the walls of their burrow. Hmmm... I'll have to do this on a day when they're not too wiggly. :)

Be careful using epoxy. Some of it gets very hot as it cures. Hot enough to burn.

Back in the '70's, when I had my CDT I put mine on the inside, upper, right, rear leg hole part of the shell. No rubbing area in that spot.

So cute! Thanks for sharing! My guys are so little, they don't have a single scute as big as the tag yet. Should I wait until they're bigger? It shouldn't go across two scutes, right? The tailpipe scutes are wayyyy too weensy.

How old are your torts? Law says in California that they don't require tag until age 2+...but realistically if they can not even support the tag physically??? then I would keep the tag with the permit and take a photo of the tort with both (sounds silly I know)..but just sharing what I would do :D

Thanks, Angela! They're 3 and 5, but still too small to have a big enough scute. This sounds like a good strategy.

Now that they have their permits and tags, does that make them old enough to drive?
