iShell Hits Stores This Summer!

We recently returned from Global Pet Expo in Orlando, Fla. While there, we
discovered lots of fun, new pet products we are now working hard to bring to
our stores and customers.

One of the most exciting finds was a cutting-edge fashion option for a
companion animal that is often overlooked – our somewhat shy and homely
turtle friends. So, drum roll please…we’re proud to announce PETCO’s
exclusive partnership with iShell Turtle Shell Covers!

These fully customizable shell accessories are guaranteed to add a spark of
life to often boring brown turtle shells. Designed to work much like the
iPad covers, iShells use a natural adhesive that creates a temporary bond
with keratin, a fibrous protein that makes scutes, or the horny scales
covering the upper shells of most turtles.

The days of struggling to identify a favorite turtle from its tankmates are
over. With iShells, our customers’ turtles can now also be a delightful
complement to their home décor.

“iShells are made from a natural resin and come in a wide variety of designs
and colors,” said Associate Merchandise Manager for Reptile and Wildlife
Supplies Anna Rodriguez. “They can be easily removed and changed thanks to a
special patent-pending technology, which creates an easily-breakable seal
between the turtle’s shell and the iShell.”

We expect iShells to become an instant hit when they become available to
PETCO customers this summer. We're also looking forward to other products
from the same Brazil-based vendor, including iScales for snakes and
reptiles.

OMG! What next? I would be worried that they would be too heavy once wet and the turtle wouldn't be able to get to the top to breathe. I also imagine that the turtle would be freaked out at not being able to dislodge it. But, there are people out there who will buy it.

identify your favorite tortoise? i would find it hard for a serious tortoise keeper not to identify his "favorite" from the rest...
this trend will only lead back to tortoises being painted.... or maybe im to pessimistic hahah

I think everyone of us ought to leave a comment.
Maybe more based on the dangers, than just how stupid and ridiciolous!!

that cover with the hello kitty is a photo shopped "smart cover" from the new ipad. I think it's fake.

well the obvious dangers are the resin based glue not being properly designed and that it could actually block the porous medium that exists in the carpace and the other obvious danger would be it detaching and the tortoise itself or others eating it. But lets be honest why even bother having a tortoise/turtle when its beauty is the harmonious bond between its body and shell and its design and your trying to hide it...

This reminds me of when I was a little girl...a hundred years ago...they would sell RES hatchlings for $.50 (yes 50 cents) and you could tell them when you wanted painted on their shell. Names, flowers, cartoon characters...etc. So now we are going backward in time instead of forward. If it's real, I think it's pathetic.

They used to do that to hermit crabs when I lived in Florida. I just remember all the tourists kids walking around with these poor freak show crabs in these tiny cages.

Just thinking about the manufacturing end of this, it has to be a hoax. The cost to gear up for production, over the few units that would be sold? No way. When I read the thread title I was thinking in terms of "skins" like for your cell phone. My next thought was of the bright lycra covers they make for riding helmets, people can wear their club colors or whatever.
