What happens to eggs that aren't fertile

Hi,
I have 3x eggs, and built an incubator for them. If they aren't fertile, do they eventually split open, or just stay as they are?

I don't really want to lift and candle them!

My first question, thanks.
Camerart.

I've heard of them exploding, and it's like a stink bomb

Hi Z and T,
Thanks, I thought as much, I think one is starting to smell already. Does this mean that most likely the other two are going in the same direction?

Some of them just dry up inside and stay like that forever, while others start to grow bacteria and eventually the gasses cause the shell to break (explode).

No way to know if they are all bad because one is failing the "sniff test". The others might be fine. What species?

Stinky eggs need to be removed and discarded ASAP.

No harm will come to the eggs if you pick them up and candle them as long as you don't turn them in any way. Up side must stay up.

Hi Y and T,
Ok, they were outside in the nest for two weeks (hot weather) , then in the incubator for almost 2 weeks.

How do I candle them, I presume I don't have to use a candle and a torch will do. What am I looking for?

Yes...you can use a torch (flashlight) instead of a candle.

See if this video helps...

Hi M,
Apart from the bad one, the other two were plain yellow, so I assume they are duds'
