White swirls on carapace

Today when Nelson was in his bath I noticed these white swirls on his shell.
I think I read somewhere that the swirls have something to do with calcium, but I just wanted to make sure this is normal!

It's perfectly normal, but nothing to do with calcium. They get less and less noticable as the tortoise gets older.
