Whoa.. his shell is VERY unusual. The rest of him looks like a Desert Tortoise, but that shell is really odd.

I'm stumped. By process of elimination, and looking at what traits I CAN see, I'll guess its an old w/c leopard, but the head is not quite right and those scutes on the back are very unusual.

Now I think it may be a Texas tort, judging by the fact that the poster is from Texas, it has that big nose that TT's have, and it appears to not have a nuchal scute.

I think its an adult male Gopherus berlandieri too, with a very unusual scute pattern and coloring.

From the appearance in the photo, I'm not so sure the tortoise has any scutes left on it. It looks like all bone, somewhat discolored. Maybe it's just the lighting in the photo. I'd love to see more pics of the tortoise!

LoLX .pretty beautiful and really funny pic.But the shell of this tortoise is also fascinating.
