You may or may not know that I stopped doing tortoise rescue earlier this year. And I've been real good at not taking any more when I get the phone calls, but referring them to Todd The Snake Man, who graciously agreed to take my rescue calls.
This a.m. I received a call from a young man who had a "mojave desert tortoise" that he wanted to find a good home for. I don't know what possessed me to tell him to bring me the tortoise, because, like I said above, I've been real good at referring these calls to Todd. But tell him I did, and he brought me the tortoise just now.
He got out of his car holding a plastic shoe box, and I said, "Oh, he's just a little baby!" The young man said that yes, he was a hatchling when they got him a few months ago. When I asked where the baby came from he said they had ordered a load of dirt and the tortoise showed up soon after the dirt was delivered.
Here's what was in the shoe box:
He has aberrant scutes, so naturally, I have to keep him! They named him Anthony. I have 1.3 Russian tortoises, so if Anthony ends up being male, I may need to rehome him. But I'll enjoy him while I have him.
