I was a long time admirer of this forum before making an account, I always found the information made the most sense, it helped clear up any contradictory information I’d read prior elsewhere and members are always able to back their answers up!
Once I made an account, everyone was so lovely and welcoming, they really helped us getting our red foot into a better set up❤️

I love the fact this place truly has the most up to date stuff!🐢💚

Prior to getting our Russian tortoise I was researching what species of tortoise we wanted and was really struggling to come up with conclusive, consistent, and common sense guidelines to follow from other online resources. I THANKFULLY found TFO about a week after we got our tort and promptly begin posting. I received a very friendly and positive greeting by the regulars and have since continually increased my education on tortoises. There are 15+ years of threads to read and learn from. I try my hardest to contribute to the TFO community the best I can with my still noobie level of experience after nearly 2 years of keep a tortoise. My advice to all non-TFO members is to come sign up, make an introduction post and take it slow, just like your cute little tortoise friends! 🐢

I like TFO because the recommended husbandry practices by many members here have actually worked for me. I've applied these practices with my own chelonians and have had excellent results. Many members like Tom, Mark, Yvonne, etc are in a position to conduct actual experiments which the rest of us can learn from and benefit from. Furthermore, I appreciate when folks don't sugar-coat things. For example, when someone asks "is my tortoise pyramiding", they typically get a direct, honest answer followed by ways to correct the situation. IMHO, sugar-coating things and simply telling someone what they want to hear isn't benefiting them or their torts. You can be direct, informative, and kind at the same time which is typically what we get here. Oh,, and the mods and admins are awesome at keeping things cleaned up and organized! ;)

The amount of expertise, activity and the willingness to help is really what drew me to this forum originally compared to other platforms. The fact that if you ask something here, you will get an answer and there are people willing to talk you through any issues you might be having.

I feel like I can learn something new here every day and there is a good atmosphere here to converse on different topics or even debate.

The biggest reason TFO is a reliable place for good info is ......
Unlike other platforms TFO post are forever, you cannot delete something you don't like or because you were proven wrong. This allows everyone to learn and see the process of that conversation and decide for themselves. Other platforms allow deleting of post/topics which just prevents anyone else from getting good info, mainly because someone was wrong and that hurts their 'feelings.'

When I've got my tortoise, I've been looking at different care sheets (to cross-check advise from pet store) and have found TFO care sheets: detailed, well-written and backed by discussions and in-depth explanations in older threads.

Then I've decided to make an account and help new keepers in their tortoise journey. I think it's a good way to express my gratitude to Josh (creator of TFO) and all who contributes or contributed to TFO (still so much to learn from all of you!).

I love TFO because the care information is state-of-the-art. There are lots of very experienced keepers who are willing to take the time to help people and tortoises in need. I mostly like to read, but these people really spend a lot of time thoughtfully replying to posts asking for help.

There are lots of tortoise groups on Facebook, but that is basically the wild west filled with trash! If you want quality help and advice, go with TFO!

I joined in 2020 having bought 3 yearling torts in 2019, whilst researching for care, enclosure and wellbeing ideas I came across this forum and joined the platinum tortoise club. I have to say I found it invaluable as I have said farewell to 2 torts and now provide a fantastic life to Speedy a healthy active Horsefield aka Russian tort with correct conditions and setup. This site gave me the confidence /inspiration to build an extension to the indoor enc and install a outside enclosure, which is Speedy's happy place during the UK summer. Over the years I have helped and advised numerous members and I am sure their torts have benefited. Thanks to the moderators and forum members for the ongoing learning and care ideas discussed in a respective dialogue, to help our shelled warriors prosper.

I'm not a big video poster, but I do really enjoy and appreciate this forum. I got my tortoise 2 years ago and had NO CLUE how to care for him/her. The tort was a Christmas gift and my friend didn't do much research. Here I am almost 3 years later calling him/her "baby", getting our annual vet check, asking and reading threads here and giving advice. Couldn't have done all of that without many of you!

The Tortoise Forum is truly amazing. As a human newly owned by a russian tortoise, I found that there is no end to learning on this site, and like so many have said, the expertise is truly phenomenal. The other part that actually made me decide to become a platinum member was the quality and immediacy of help and support provided by experts (Tom + all admin + veterans of this site). The thoughtfulness, wisdom, and patience shown by the pros to questions (from newbies like myself) can change a tortoise's living conditions for the better and make owners wiser (and, let's face it, those care sheets + other info took lots of time to write and they really help :) Anyway, there is no way Boris would have moved from a fish tank (that's how he was given to me) to a plastic tub to his current enclosure (plus all the dietary changes) had it not been for this here tortoise forum and it's members.
