From a cement mixing container to DIY enclosure, the last few months my little buddy has made some adjustments for the better. I figured I’d start a new thread since his enclosure is completely new.
The old DIY setup worked good, but the plastic greenhouse cover, even with 160watts of CHEs, was costing me too much heat loss. IMG_2050.jpg
So I started on a canopy build. I was also eager to try a VE 80w radiant heat panel from Reptile Basics. Also to prevent rot, I completely Pond Armored the interior. IMG_2225.jpgIMG_2226.jpgIMG_2235.jpgE69C7BCD-F144-42BB-889D-44A39AE91D71.jpg46BE9A1B-8BE4-4AD5-ADD6-1954589227B5.jpg
I was also excited to offer Winston his first tray of fresh grown tortoise mix. He went right into it. IMG_2250.jpgIMG_2255.jpg
He ate, and ate lol. This Is where he slept, and he woke to eat more. Time to grow another. IMG_2264.jpg

He really seems to love the radiant heat panel. He is more active and a bit more hungry. The warmth from this panel.. it really feels like I’m under the warm sun. More pics and reports to come. I need to add a slate piece on the substrate under the panel, to radiate a little more heat. We had a cold night last night (room temp 70) and the warm side was at 82.5, and cool side 77, whereas I was trying to reach 86 and 80ish. My friends at Reptile Basics advised adding the slate and the temps will raise and the panel won’t have to work as hard.
Off to the store for some slate.
