Most any are fine. Just let it air out until there are no more fumes before putting tort back in it.

Thompsons is fine ... but a " true" hard / non-porous surface would be using a clear resin.....this works very well too... very easy to clean and it disinfects very well.

I like boiled linseed oil, sometimes it takes several coatings to get the protection I want because it penetrates very deeply into raw wood, and is safe for tortoises.
