I don't know what to do about this. she is hungry as she checks out the substrate and things she finds in her enclosure but doesn't eat what is on a plate. what do you guys use for dishes, I am thinking maybe that is the problem, i am using something that isn't the right thing for her

I also use slate and granite rocks that I found outside. I just brush them off every morning and pile the food on.

I use the lid from a tupperware container and it works fine when secured. The only problem is if Shorty isn't hungary he pushes it around and food falls onto the substrate. I think Redstrike has a really good idea!

I like to use the upside down butter tub lids for small ones and terra cotta saucers for bigger ones. My big adults eat off of fast food trays or a bed of grass hay.

Are you using a coil type bulb for UV or a colored light for heat?

Try putting your tortoise in a plain large plastic tub with nothing else in it but the tortoise and its food. Just curious to see what happens...

I make plates for the indoor hab out of folded newspaper, and toss them after use.

The little 3 inch terra cotta saucers for ours, switching her to a slate slab soon though.

I've been doing the same! Of course they walk all around so after awhile it is just everywhere!

I just now noticed your other comment when I was reading this over . I will try the large tub with food and noting else, maybe that will work

thanks, I went with the slab. I think even the rep zoo med dish was to high for her

Mine couldn't get the food in the zoo med dish so what I did was flip it around so it's flat

Mine eat off of a flat rock. helps trim their nails and beak while they're eating.

So I have now discovered that shelloise isn't a fan of plates, lids or slate (I had tried all) she will eat if the food is on top of the cypress mulch. She has been eating on and off for the past 40 minutes
