Just wondering if people could give me some advice. I've had a young Hermanns tortoise for about two months now. He is gradually starting to put on weight, gram by gram. He does rub his eyes a lot though. Could it be the substrate I'm using or could it be an infection. He seems lively enough and can certainly see me coming but was just wondering.
Looking for a tortoise vet to take him to, just for a check up, in the Hampshire are of UK, if anyone has any experience there also. Thanks in advance. View attachment 228220IMG_20180120_134032_1.jpg

Greetings. Before you make a trip to the vet, you might want to triple check everything you are doing for your tort as far as space, lighting, food, heat, substrate, humidity levels etc.
  • You say your tort is rubbing its eyes. what type of lighting are you using?
  • What type of heating?
  • Are you soaking as prescribed?
  • Substrate with perlite you have, although sold like that in pet stores, is not recommended here on this Forum. Torts often ingest those nice little white pebbles. I’d suggest changing that out.
Hope this helps. Good luck with your torty!
