Hello, Good pellets for sulcata should be low in protein, high in fiber, right? What % should the protein be? Is 18% protein, 20-26% fiber good? I'm confused about what pellets to use, I'm confused between T balance pellets, JGS premium torto food, Zion nutrimax and Mazuri. The composition and ingredients of the pellets I mentioned earlier are good. so I'm confused, can you give a recommendation?

When mine was little I stuck with the Mazuri LS for him. You have it right though: low starch, low sugar, low protein, low oxalate, high fiber. Now that mine is bigger, I switched over to Purina Mills organic crumbles. I think it's like 2% higher in protein than the Mazuri, but cheaper price.
I got a baby red foot turtle. My first time with a red foot.
I feel lost specially with management temperature and humidity in south Florida. Now is very hot, around 93 degrees and I see the baby inside the hiding spot and not too active. IDK, any recommendations on how manage this extreme temps here ? My plan is keep him outside, but now not too sure if this is ok.
Any recommendations.
Thanks!

Baby tortoise should be housed indoors in controlled conditions. We will help to sort things out, don't worry

UPD: I see your post, nvm :)
hi, I want to ask, is it safe to give Rept shine (shell moisturizer) to the torto shell so it doesn't dry out? Because the humidity in my cage is only 40-53 and I can't increase the humidity in my cage to 80 or above. And I don't want my sulcata pyramiding because the shell is too dry. Please answer

Terrariums are only big enough for hatchlings.
How big is yours?
Tortoise pellets are good as long as it's part of a varied diet, not the only diet. Any of them can be used, even several of them. Just don't make it the only thing in their diet and don't make it the largest percentage of their diet.

im not using terarrium right now. Im using a container box 54x36x14 cm (shinpo patriot cb 19) u can search that on google. and its open enclosure.
Okay, But can i give pellets mixed with vegetables everyday? or its not safe for the sulcata?

Vegetables should not be fed. Greens like escarole, arugula, dandelion, hay pellets soaked, cactus pads, those kinds of "veggies" yes. Some squash, cucumber, romaine, can be fed sparingly, more as a treat.
Good evening looking for a large male leopard tortoise to play with my females anyone has one or know where i can fine one.
Do you ever have older leopards for sale, or only hatchlings? I'm looking for an age/size that could go directly outside in Texas.
Hello, We are looking to find very good home for our 3 1/2 year old Marginated Tortoise named Shelby. We believe her to be a female. She's healthy and elegantly beautiful. And a sweet personality. Please let me know if you have any interest. Thanks. Kathi in San Diego, CA.

Unfortunately I don't have space for another tortoise, but I definitely recommend posting in the adoptions section of the group
Hi Tom

I was wondering if you could help me my tortoise is an African leopard ans he is 15 years old, last year a part of his shell lifted and came off and I have recently notice his shell is really dry and other parts are beginning to lift as well, I think it may be shell rot
Hey bill, i know you lived in MA for some years. Would you happen to have some contacts for radiated breeders here? Thanks

Hi Jack,

Actually, I haven't lived in MA since 1967. After that I lived in CT until 2002.

The only one in MA who might have any would be Alan Flynn. His phone is (781) 504-6702
Work email: [email protected] Home email: [email protected]
He may have retired and/or even moved out of state by now, but I don't think so.

I have a tortoise that I’ve had for 3 years now I’m not sure what she is I’ve been doing research for a while now still can’t seem to figure out what she is. I rescued her from by a lake in Pompano Beach Fl. She’s a tortoise I know that for sure. She’s well and active. I just want to know what specie she is to be able to better care for her.

Hello and welcome! Please, make a post in the Introductions section of the forum (use green button Post thread in top right corner). You can add some photos there so we can help to identify it.
I have a 12 year old female Russian tortoise that I want to rehome. She is my daughter’s tortoise, but my daughter is at college now, my wife has health issues I need to attend to and we cannot give the tortoise the attention it deserves. We live in Hudson, Ohio. Please let me know if you are interested. I am willing to provide a new enclosure with heat lamp and substrate for free. I will bring the tortoise to you.

Hello! I'm sorry about your situation. Could you make a post in Adoption section of the forum? (Use green button Post thread in the top right corner). Not many members read profile posts. Also be warned about new users willing to adopt, sometimes people register to get a free tortoise and sell it. Please, do your due diligence.

Humidity levels are rising.

Also, so sorry for everybody who keeps seeing this it’s primarily being used for myself as a journal
Reading up on RF. Theyre supposed to like a list of things including cuttlebone, did I purchase a (sorry) defective (sorry) RF? They don’t act or do RF things I find on this forum. •they don’t act sick, no bubbles, no goop from any places, no shell rot, no pyramiding. Humidity is high, I got new lights (prev thread)
I’m lost. I hope they’ll act according to the book 👏🏼😭

RFs sometimes drastically change their food preferences (stop eating one thing and start eating something it didn't touch for years).

Cuttlebone is often ignored for months and then devoured in a day (it's common among all tortoises not only RF).

It's not a bad idea to do a vet checkup (for parasites, beak anomalies and such). But finding a good vet is not easy.

In the meanwhile, you can try to tweak temperatures a little bit, e.g. raise for 2-3F for a couple of days. Sometimes thermostats/thermometers can be off for some degrees.

I just bought 2 new thermostats & hygrometer, so there will be a total of 4 in her tank to make sure. I’m a little obsessed I guess.
Newredfoot24
I just put Speedy on the scale (very first weigh in since adoption on May 19)
1.25 oz - I have NOTHING to go off of.
I’ll take weight in a few days time to make sure they’re not dropping
