give daily soaks and provide water to their enclosure, if they want to soak themselves they can. It gets hot and dry just about everywhere, It was 100 here yesterday and mid to upper 90's all week and my outside torts soaked whenever they wanted.

I understand from speaking to Gillian that tortoise supplies and special foods and enclosures, etc. are difficult to come by in Jordan.
Please excuse some of our replies. We take for granted how easy it is to find things in the U.S.

Thank you everyone for all the great and valuable information.

I will definitely look into replacing his enclosure ASAP. I have for now given him/her two warm soaks that he/she seemed to enjoy, and removed the sand and added a carton cave i cut out of a box. As for recommended food, all I have at home atm are cucumbers and lettuce, so I diced a bit for him/her. Will look into getting a hold of other food items tomorrow too.

Is it ok for the temporary enclosure not to have any ground, just bare plastic? For a day or two?

Gillian, i'm so glad I found someone on this forum that is aware of the climate we live in. Do you have any suggestions on where I would be able to obtain the necessary supplies and vitamins in Amman and maybe a reasonably priced enclosure?

Again, thank you all very much, i'm so glad I found this forum.

Damp paper towels would probably be easier to walk on and be ok for the time being.

When you come from Jordanian it actually has to be Testudo gracea terrestris. And funny to see you have a fresh hatchling there. Maybe a week old ;)

Got stuff!!

I think I found everything to create a decent home for Pluto.

Peatmoss
Organic Soil
UVB Lamp & Bulb
Multi purpose basking lamp & bulb
Humidity Gauge
Temp Gauge
2 Ceramic plates
Moss Mat
Cat grass, parsley, and spinach seeds.
Tree Netting
100lt. container

Couldn't find cypress mulch or repti-bark or pea gravel. Any alternatives to those?

I still need to go get a down-step transformer because the bulbs are north america voltage. But wanted to update you guys on the progress.

Will post images of the ready setup asap. Will welcome any advice as I go.

Not cheap!!! Cup-a-noodles for the rest of the month! o_O

Can someone please help me identify his/her type. Total noob when it comes to reptiles.

And if anyone can advise me on the diet and required habitat. We have a dog and a cat, i don't trust the cat... something about her eyes... So i would prefer to have a closed enclosure for Pluto "the tortoise, i think, or is he/she a turtle??"

Please see the attached images, I have bought him this home, which is designed for hamsters i believe, the pet shop had great chameleon housings but were very expensive, couldn't find anything better, placed a layer of sand and rocks as seen in the image. I live in Jordan/Middle East.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

A very warm welcome to the forum from Amman!

I've had Oli (my beloved Greek tort) for 5.5 years or so. GOD only knows how much I looked for tort food in vain. I was told that due to the fact that torts live in the wild, stores do not deal with it. @ZEROPILOT saved Oli and was kind enough to send me mazuri, cuttlefish, calcium powder and so on. THANKS @ZEROPILOT !!

Where did you find the food? if I may ask.

Interesting. Where in Amman did you find all that?

Your answer would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Oops! I think you've bought the wrong type of UVB bulb. You can take back the daylight bulb AND the UVB bulb and in exchange get either one of these (you don't need both, just one or the other)

You can keep the daylight heat bulb and add this for UVB:

Or you can return both the daylight and UVB bulbs and get this instead:

mercury vapor bulb.jpg

The compact fluorescent bulb that you bought might be harmful to his eyes.

I got the seeds from a shop nearby. We are currently feeding him carrots, cucumbers and lettuce.

Thanks very much your prompt reply.

Could you tell me whereabouts it is in Amman?

Yikes... the shop didn't carry any other type of bulb, and i'm certain they didn't have the ones in the pictures above. How bad is the situation? What do you suggest we do?
