Hi all,

First time posting so let me know if I've posted this in the wrong forum or point me in the general direction of what I need to include in my post for next time

I've had my Russian tortoise for nearly 5 years now since he was a hatchling.

Today while eating I noticed on one side of his beak there was a fair portion of his beak chipped away... I've included photos of either side (chipped side & normal side) of his beak in this thread and highlighted the chipped area.

I don't think it's mouth rot as he's got a healthy appetite (as always) and there's no smell/it's not soft to the touch and no discharge, I think he may have chipped it on his slate, my question is does this require the attention of a vet? Does the beak grow back, so will it over time fill back in?

Thanks in advance!IMG_20190803_164428__01.jpg IMG_20190803_164431__01.jpg IMG_20190803_164636.jpg IMG_20190803_164622.jpg

Hi!
I think it's pretty much okay..
My russian tortoise, Oogway, shed its beak today.. I got worried that he might not be able to eat properly but it's all fine. He didnt feel any pain and there was no blood.
I have attached picture as well..
Correct me if I'm wrong as it looks normal to me.

The problem with allowing a beak to get overgrown as your tortoises beak is, is it very seldom breaks off evenly like what angryscientist shows us. It usually chips off irregularly and most often, too far up into the quick, where it's painful.

It's not rot, it's overgrown and needs trimming.
