Hi to all. This is my first time on a forum. Im really not proficient on a computer but why not. I have had a sulcata and a red foot for 15 years. It started out when I lived in Fla. I now live in Arkansas. Last week I lost my animals in a barn fire. I’m just getting to the point that I can talk about it. I have called and emailed around to rescues but only two have answered. One did not have any sulcatas and the other was in Cali. Cali had some kind words and said that they will have some big guys and girls up soon. I think my wife believes I’m nuts because I’m thinks seriously of flying out and driving one home. A four day drive home will kill me. I could get a baby once again but I feel the need to help without by giving a rescue a good home. My new barn is in the process of being built this one will have fire sprinklers in it. To Tom the dog trainer I read your how to take care of a baby. I myself read books and got help from the breeder. You are right Boy what I was told and read was totally opposite of your how to raise a baby. One thing I did was sun shade and water. I was telling someone the other day that my tortoises would sit in the water for long periods. I guess that luck was with me my tortoises lived healthy.
If anyone knows of an animal that needs a home just maybe I’ll be a good fit. I have no problem giving my vet info to show that I’m not just looking to get one free and sell it. I’m not sure if y’all can see my email or not so here it is m hbu llyb ee @ gm ail .c o m. *** Thank you very much Michael

I am so sorry for your loss, Michael. Truly devastating!!

Craigslist, Nextdoor are local online sources you can watch, as well as on this site. And most of the tortoise rescue sites are on line as well.

Welcome to the forum. We love photos!!

Hello, Michael, and welcome to the forum!

What a heartbreaking, crushing experience you have suffered! I am so sorry!

People are looking for homes for torts all the time, and on the forum as well. Be patient and some will come your way.

Hi Michael. I'm sorry for your loss. Maybe hold off that Cali trip and check the forum here on TF for a while. Folks are always looking for new homes for their torts. Of course there are tortoise rescues out there too (just do a Google search on 'tortoise rescue'. I cant vouch for any of them, personally, but it might be a good place to start looking. Best of luck.

Hey again... back out to the forums page on this site and check out under the Tortoise Forum Market Place forum. They have several categories you may be interested in. I saw one under the Bartering and Trades thread called 'Male Sulcata'. It was posted in sept. 2020, but not sure if maggie3fan ever found a home for him.

Thank you all
Hey, Michael: Now THAT'S a big tortoise!!!

Welcome to the Forum. That's so sad to hear about the barn fire. Can you tell us what caused the fire? I'm curious if it was because of the lights and heat you had for your tortoises.

Oh now I know why!!! Hey thanks for the mention. If I were you I would simply start looking in all the places available, Craigslist etc. Put a comment in the adoptions thread. I have a female Sulcata named Mary Knobbins, and I write stories about her and I am constantly threatening to give her away...just a threat

All good.
to answer the question on how the fire started I do not know. I had it out before the firefighters got here. One kid dart mouthed me and that was not good. Under the point of the cops taser I had to let them into what was left of the barn. They kicked everything around so I could not tell what happened.

They need to take the tasers away from police. They are to quick to pull them. Their negotiations of a problem are pretty much nonexistent. But that's my opinion, I was never to good about people with authority. I guess it's probably a good thing. They didn't have tasers when I was a rebel rouser. They had pepper spray though. ?????

What a terrible shame. I have sulcatas offered to me regularly. I will send them your way until we find one for you. I actually have a friend in Georgia that has a smallish one she is looking to re-home. He's about three years old, 8 inches long, and very well hydrated and cared for. She feeds him a great diet too. Would you be interested in one that small? He's grew slowly at first, but is sprouting now. If yes, message me.

Sorry I did not see this. I would be glad to her. I have family coming out here from Atlanta in April

Thanks I sure was not thinking. I still go out to feed my tortoises. When my wife asks what I’m doing I tell her oh I’m going to go feed the chickens
