Yesterday we went to the vet and she recieved a baytril shot and then they gave us orbax 20ml orally daily... she seems fine but her shell is kinda swollen and seems a little lighter in color. Is that a normal side effect or what do i do?!
She got the runs yesterday but is fine now.. shes eating everything in sight ... but i keep her plenty hydrated and her box is at 98° . Im just a little worried about the swelling. Please give me a better insight on this!!

a constant 98 is pretty hot ........l....

Enrofloxacin

Overdosage/acute toxicity

It is unlikely that an acute overdose of either compound would result in symptoms more serious than either anorexia or vomiting, but the adverse effects noted above could occur. Dogs receiving 10 times the labeled dosage rate of enrofloxacin for at least 14 days developed only vomiting and anorexia. Death did occur in some dogs when fed 25 times the labeled rate for 11 days, however.

i've never seen a swollen shell ........ what did you take him in for in the first place ? maybe someone could correct me , but constant 90 sounds to hot to me also ..... i'd think more like 80-96 ?

Agree with Mark. Why did you bring your tort in to the vet? Next, a tortoise’s shell doesn’t really swell. So, what exactly are you seeing that is “swollen” ?

She has a URI. about a month and a half ago we got prescribed ceftazidime injections . We had to do 10 doses every 72hrs...that made her a little better but it seemed to not be doing anything after the first 3 shots.. she still sounds mucusy and shes got a really bad runny nose/eyes.. so since those didnt work, the vet told me that they are going to give her a different antibiotic as well as do a culture. Well ive gotta wait 5 days for results. They didnt tell me they werre giving her baytril until AFTER they gave it to her.. they want me to give her orbax everyday after. And every vet ive been too says keep the box no less than 90° when they have a RI.
She seems fine just hungry, she wants to eat 3verything she possibly can.. her shell just a little swollen is the only side effect ive noticed... but im not sure if i should be worried about it or not. Any information would be great guys because im kinda worried about my ninkas.

30 days of ceftazidime ? probably your vet suspects a mycoplasma infection ? i think orbax works as long as you can administer the dosage ......... imo , if your tortoise is well enough to be eating well , he's well enough to thermoregulate himself ...... i'd offer him an 80 spot and a 96 spot ........ optimal conditions and those antibiotics should take care of his problem .... if he stops eating , then you might want to worry ....... JMO

swelling is not a side effect of baytril ......they been using baytril for like 40yrs , it was a painful injection then and still is now , and they still use it ......... is your vet a reptile vet ?

When you say "box" this makes me thing the torts is living outside. But then you mention the "basking temperature" which makes me thing it is indoors. Is it inside or out? What size is the tortoise in grams? Or inches?

98 under the basking lamp is great. 89-92 is excellent if you are fighting a RI, and fine for a sulcata even if you aren't.

How did your tortoise get an RI at those temps? Was it colder before? Were you not using night heat? How close to the coast are you? Cold clammy beach air will make them sick without night heat. What size is the enclosure? Is it a closed chamber? Humidity?

Runny eyes are normal for this species. One of their common names in Africa is "The Crying Tortoise". Runny nose isn't normal, but can come from stress or from eating watery foods like cactus pads. I'm not so sure your tortoise has a RI. RIs typically cause lethargy and lack of appetite. Are you seeing thick mucous discharge from the nares? Or could it be leakage from the teary eyes? I don't see anything wrong with the shell in your picture.

Injectible Baytril is caustic and literally burns them at the injection site. It should not be used in my opinion. Don't be surprised if the skin sloughs off at the injection site at some point days or weeks from now.
