Hey everyone. So I finished the deworming treatement for my tortoise recently. However the vet called and said that we should wait another month before getting another fecal test from my tortoise. When i was doing the treatment I was washing out her bowls daily to prevent reinfection. I stopped after the treatment because I assumed she didn't have the parasites anymore. Should I keep washing her bowls in case she still has parasites?

Did you finish all the meds?
It's her substrate more then just bowls that she would could get them again.
Did you keep her on paper towels or paper and throw it away daily?

Thanks for responding. The meds are all done. I didn't keep her on paper towels. Was I supposed to? The vet said to just clean out the bowls and clean her poop out immediately.

Dead worms and possibly live eggs can get passed in the poop.
Its why there is a second dosage.
But I'd clean out the entire enclosure to be safe.

The best way to house when treating for worms is to keep them on a plain floor or have paper down that you can change every time they poop.
I would change the substrate out now keep him/her on a plain floor until you know all worms are gone.

Do you think that the treatement was pointless since I didn't change the substrate? Is there a possibility that she hasn't gotten reinfected?

First, what type of worms is it? Some of them are commensal or symbiotic, and not "parasitic". It also depends on the numbers. Sometimes the wormer does more harm than the worms. What wormer was used?

Every tortoise will always be "re-infected" at some point. Likely in the same way they got infected in the first place.

I forget what type of worms it was. I'm going to call the vet when they open and ask.

I am by far no vet but I don't think that she had a lot of worms. I Google it and it said that the symptoms were not eating. She always eats.

Pancuar was used 3 times every 10 days in a small tube

By 3 times every 10 days I meant every 10 days, I would give her the pancuar. I did that 3 times

Its and unfortunate fact that most vets know very little about tortoises or what they need. Often they do more harm than good. I'm speaking in general terms now. I do not know your, vet or what your case was. Just pointing out what I have seen from vets working with tortoises over the decades.

Oh that's awful.

The parasite is "ova" or "ophidascaris". It says "few (3-10)".
