Can anyone tell what species this is? Seen on beach in Naples Fl. Could it be native or is it a released pet?

that's where they saw it. But if native to FL I am guessing they are Ok on the beach
Yes...I was wondering if it's a beach by the ocean or in a pond or fresh water setting. Tortoise by the seaside just seems off to me...I don't know..

In Florida Gopher Tortoises sometimes live in grassy areas near beaches, but they rarely go out in the open beach, and of course would not voluntarily enter sea water. Ignorant people sometimes move them to inappropriate places, so if a tortoise is seen near the ocean and far from grassland or open woodland, I'd call Florida wildlife authorities and see if they want to come out, or perhaps ask you to relocate it to the nearest suitable habitat.
