I have always noticed after feeding a pinch of calcium. He seemed to get a little lethargic for a day.
Now Opo is 2 yrs old and about 13lbs.
Is a teaspoon of calcium to much?
I use powderized eggshell for awhile now.
Fed him yesterday and he is lethargic again. I feed calcium once a week.
One time he ate a cuttle bone in about 10 minutes. He was off for 2 days.
Am I giving him to much?
Does anyone else notice this with their torts?

I only use a pinch sprinkled over the food.

Ray, i think just having a cuttlefish bone out and nibbled and devoured is enough. I don’t think you need to be routinely adding calcium pinches daily. A good mixed feeding, some egg shells once in awhile and a cuttlefish bone seems like enough.

I’m not sure the extra calcium has anything to do with the lethargic symptoms you are noting. Our Sully often eats a TON one or two days, then hangs out for long periods in his shed. Then, right back out in a day or two HANGRY! She knows thete’s food in the dish.

Routine feeding of a good mixed variety, access to water, cuttlefish bone present all the time. And don’t worry too much.

Today, worry about Dorian! Batten the hatches.

Thanks Mark, I am just probably experiencing the actions of a normal sully as he matures. I have accordian shutters so my wife can have the house buttoned up in 10 min with not much effort.
Sometimes I feel real useless. Thank God my wife enjoyed learning when we remodeled 2 homes. She is a real trooper.

Yes, my 6 year old female sully does this. Binge eat her lawn plus cactus and then don’t see her for a day or 2 as she’s loading her shed with poo and napping. She will continue to eat if I bring her food... If I hold anything green in-front of her house opening she will come out to see if its worth it.

This summer is different than the last. Opo found out grass is good this summer. He will binge for a straight hr in the morning. Then devour 2 cactus pads. Then somedays the morning graze is lazy and he will sniff the cactus pad. Then go back to one of his hides and sleep. I guess I just got to get used to the different routines. My thinking is if he is not eating something is wrong. :p
I have got to accept he probably knows what he is doing. :)
