Oh, dear, I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. Poor soul to be treated so badly. You folks were his angels, to care for him here and ease his passing. My god bless him and you wonderful folks for caring for him in his greatest time of need.

It is with a heavy heart that I notify you all, we lost the battle with Chance. His system was so impacted that he did not survive. While we knew the odds weren't good, we had to give him the last chance at life. If only we would have been able to get him when he came into the shelter, maybe that would have been in time for our efforts to be successful. While I understand we did everything possible, I can't help but feel like a failure. I became so attached to him providing such intensive care that it absolutely crushed me when he passed. From the hell he was put through to the love that we surrounded him with, we hope he felt just how much we loved him and were fighting for him.
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers and good vibes for Chance. We are grateful! We know he is no longer in discomfort and can now rest peacefully. Sometimes they don't make it, but we have to do everything we can to give them a chance.
This is absolutely devastating to read😞I’m so sorry for your guys loss, his original post really tugged at my heart strings, I felt instantly attached to him from the other side of the globe, I can’t imagine how you’re feeling💔

You are in no way shape or form a failure, you did absolutely everything possible and I truly believe chance knew that, he was able to pass peacefully at the best tortoise sanctuary there is❤️I’m glad he got to know nothing but love in his finale days, you provided dignity to this beautiful majestic soul during his crossover the rainbow bridge, thanks to you, he didn’t die at a shelter with no where to call home, his legacy will live on in all the work you guys do! I’ll certainly never forget this sweet tortoise🥺Shine bright up there Chance🐢💫🌈

I would really like to know who is responsible for letting that tortoise get that way in the first place. My *** would be on a plane and I would indeed go to jail afterwards.
Unfortunately, the system failed from the moment he entered that shelter. While we support the efforts of all shelters, this was something that could have been prevented. And even though Chance didn't survive it, his situation has now made change within the shelter systems of Southern California. We are now being contacted immediately if one comes into their facilities. We understand that the shelters are just "shelters", they are not equipped to house, rehabilitate and provide homes to the animals. We are heartbroken over Chance, but we are grateful for the change that his story made.
