Everybody help! I need help immediately! There is hingeback tortoise at my local flea market, in a 5 gallon aquarium! No water dish and a piece of "delicious and nutritional" iceburg lettuce!! I dont know much on these tortoises, but i need the best adult hingeback tortoises because i will adopt and care for this tortoise.

Hi tupaclives:

I hope I'm not stepping on toes here, but I just wanted to caution you about getting in too deeply right at the beginning.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a sense that you are a beginner in the tortoise-keeping world. You are thinking of getting a redfooted, a cherryhead and a yellowfooted tortoise, and now you want to rescue the hingeback.

My advice to you, and to all new tortoise caretakers is to start with ONE tortoise, whatever species, and learn how to care for that tortoise before you branch out and get something else.

I don't keep hingeback tortoises, but from what I've read about them they can be heartbreakers - hard to keep - hard to get them to eat. I'd hate to see you get the hingeback and have it die on you.

If you make your mistakes at the beginning on only one tortoise, its bad, but not nearly as bad as if you have 4 different types and make mistakes on all of them.

Please re-think what you're doing.

Hey there, I really need to get rid of that username, its not a mature aproach. However, I am not new to tortoise keeping. I am just so interested in every tortoise, turtle, and animal altogether. I hate seeing animals suffer and I want to help this little mistreated guy..
I want those tortoises because they fascinate me to death. I want to own my own tortoise farm, but i am far from that dream. I just want to get there one step at a time.

Careful with these guys if they have parasites and stuff it can be rally difficult and expensive to bring it back, I know you have the best intentions but don't overwell yourself, once you do that it can be hard to give care to any of the tortoises. Also keep this one away from the others cuz they are known to have some illnesses
