Does anyone use this? It is in a reptile store near me it's in a cube with their own label on it, it looks nothing like the Spaghnum moss that comes from garden centres it's cream beige colored and thicker and long..
Anyone have experience with it?

Shelli if what you are seeing in garden centers is NOT tan and long-fibered.. it is PEAT MOSS [ regardless how it's marketed ]!

This is what it sounds like you have described and want to use for your redfoot.. THIS is REAL Sphagnum moss - http://www.mosserlee.com/page/What_Is_Sphagnum_Moss.aspx

I've used and have been promoting Sphagnum moss for going on 5 years.. NOTHING is better!!!

RE: 100% Chilean Sphagnum Moss?

No I have the Mosser Lee stuff and some Canadian stuff which I have two bags of that is identical to the Mosser Lee..
I am going to buy a bag of this Chilian stuff to show you.
The Mosser Lee and my Canadian stuff is more like dark green, green and brown and more moss colored and like dry moss this 100% Chilian Sphagnum moss stuff is more fat and whiter and kind of a bit husky long pieces of plant beige moss..
I'll grab a bag tomo.
I have to re-do Olive's bed because I have found some bugs in her soil (I have mosser lee over soil) and I am hoping to beable to get her bedding locally through the winter and all the garden centre's are shut I have stocked up but this just goes to show how I might need more at short notice kind of thing.... and this Chilian stuff is just down the rd... hmmmmm
I have watched your video on how wet the moss and that is the same as my Mosser Lee and Canadian moss I got from the garden centres.

Terry I just went to the link and that moss does like white cream... but I have a bag of Mosser Lee and it's not cream..
Let me take a pic...

Hubby is running out now to grab Chilian moss.. :)

Ok first of all I would like to point out that I am in no way addicted to moss buying.. :/ This was the LAST known bag of Mosser Lee I could get my hands on I tried to order in more but the season is over... so I got some Canadian Sphag Moss, and now :) Chilean Sphag Moss...

I was in such a hurry to get the bag open it poofed EVERYWHERE.. arghhh.. so..
Now that I see them all lined up in a row, it is NOT that much different to the Mosser Lee...
It is REALLY nice and soft and spongy...
3 pictures total...

I've started using the Chilean sphagnum moss since finding it at a
local greenhouse.
I love the stuff, and so does our Rosy.

LONG-FIBER is what you need! Color has nothing to do with it.. or how 'spongy' it seems - that's just how it's packaged.

ALL of those are long-fibered Sphagnum moss.. which is what you need!!! It's like a tomato from Florida is the same as a tomato from Ontario....... they're both tomatoes.

Mosser Lee is simply what is available ( most/economically ) here!

Be sure to pull it apart until almost single strands...

Does it look the same as mine Rosy's Mom?

Exactly like yours.:)
Nice long fibres, is a light tan color when dry and turns a darker
brown when wet.
I need to buy some more and ask if it will be available all winter.
I'll post pics of the packaging when I do.

I'd never use peat moss for my redfoot, maybe in the horses stalls
but not under my torts.

Why not use any peat moss? I've been using it mixed with plain potting soil and it seems to hold the moisture well.I do stir it up every few days to a week and add more water. Did I get mixed up somewhere?, thought I changed it because of here.I must have a brain cramp.. (I also have sphagnum moss in the hide)
Oh will I ever get it right???

Thanks Rosy's Mom that really helps ease my mind I love it too it really holds the humidity yet isn't too wet there are dry spots and damper spots.. It's holding my humidity at 12% more humidity without ALL the work I was doing with the other one I was using which was actually the Canadian one.

Hi Nay!
I used organic top soil with peat moss I called the company 3 x to check on whether it was safe (different questions came up) they were VERY helpful.. however sadly their soil had lots of little white spider bugs they were so tiny and fast.. I didnt' notice until I was potting some clover seeds for Olive I was glad I hadnt' used the same bag then sure enough not but 2 hours later I was watching her and there running on her shell was one of the bugs..
It's not supposed to be bad for them the bugs only eat plant matter but I just didnt' want them on her or in my house particularly although I still have the clover planted in the soil since I bought 4 huge bags.. lol...
So yer that's why I'm not using it anymore..
