Collecting Oregon Moss?

So i was out in my yard when i noticed really pretty sphagnum moss growing pretty much everywhere. The company i have been buying moss from is out of Washington, and claims it is locally harvested.
So, does anyone here just pick live sphagnum moss for their toertoise enclosure outside?
Does it stay alive in there?
Can it thrive indoors?

I wanted to do that, too. But didn't get around to it because my tortoise doesn't live indoors anymore..
If you can guarantee it hasn't been sprayed or treated, I'd try it.

I have some from outside in my little Redfoots enclosure. Its not exactly thriving.
