One of my young CB Russian tortoise females who reached breeding weight last year laid a clutch of 8 itty bitty eggs this afternoon.
I was so surprised! I think she was, too. The final 2 eggs were barely covered, she must have run out of space.
The smallest egg is only 10g. Six of them are 12g and one is 14g. My females usually lay 3-6 eggs weighing about 20g each.
We shall see how many of them are fertile. My CB male is still young. He fathered 1 CB2 baby last year, so I know he is fertile.
They are washed, labelled, and incubating now.
For those who might ask, these CB2 babies won't be available until next Spring. I'm choosing to raise them up past 100g (by Spring some will actually be closer to 200g), since the market has too many barely hatched babies these days.
