Found this at Walmart. I was using a ceramic plant saucer, but this is deeper and much easier to remove and clean.
I put in with warm water every other day. "Turtle" loves his bath.
The bad thing about that type of dish is the straight sides. Sometimes a tortoise (a tortoise doesn't bend) gets over balanced when trying to climb up over a straight-sided dish and tips over backwards into the water and drowns.
It's not that deep and my tortoise has no problem climbing out. I can see that it could be a problem with a smaller tortoise or if you put too much water in it. I only use about 1/2" of water and it is a lot easier to clean out afterwards without sloshing. He is a messy thing .
Sorry to disagree, but it looks like a flip hazard to me.
He may get in and out fine 999 times out of a thousand but one flip in there could be disastrous, in my opinion.
Looks like it works! The flip hazard can happen. But I've had tortoises flip even with slope sides. All my guys can flip themselfs back though. Even seen them do it in there big pond dish. My guys climb everything
I use a big pan kind of like that, but I bury it in the substrate to it is level and my torts go in and out with ease, and if there's a way to flip they usually find it. Keeping the water level low is definitely a good idea though, just to be safe.
