About how old might a 100lb male sulcata be? I know there is no definitive answer here but I am looking into possibly rescuing a 100 pound male of unknown age and would love to have at least a vague idea of how old he might be.

Thanks!

Sulcatas haven't been in this country for very long, so it probably isn't any older than 30 years or so. I'm leaning more towards the tortoise being on the younger end of Tom's spectrum. Probably in the 20 year area.

My sullies, both males, are 4 years old and weigh 72 and 68 lbs. I gather that when they reach 100 lbs, they could be 6 years old. But, I tend to believe that the 100 lbs male rescue may be more like 17-20 years old. More information can be given once you can post pics of his carapace since conditions like smooth carapace as oppose to pyramiding can tell us if he was raised properly. Also, if he's pyramided, to what degree? I suspect that this rescue may have very little or no pyramiding. I hope you rescue this guy since chances of placing this beautiful sully, because of his size, are slim.

This is him. I just met him moments ago. He comes home tomorrow once I finish prepping for him. :)
There's a little pyramiding, but nothing to worry about. He has some new growth lines. It looks like he's doing well. Again, it's really hard to tell how old he is, but 100 lbs tells me he may be 10-15 years old. It may be fun to try to get members to guess his age cause I think you'll get a bunch of people who'll give you a wide variety of ages. The main thing is that he looks healthy :)

When my Dudley reached 100lbs at about 20 years of age, his growth slowed way down. He's now about 25 years and still just a bit more than 100lbs. I think last time I weighed him he was 110lbs. I really doubt he'll get any bigger, but they do put on weight, just not more growth.
