I'm leaving on a week long trip with a friend and he is leaving his greek tortoise with my sulcata for the week. I know you arent spposed to mix species, but its the only way my parent can take care of both tortoises........ a greek and sulcata should do fine for a week together...yes?

Different species have different parasites. They can get each other sick and it's dangerous to mix species. No I'm not kidding. Please look this up there are many thread on it. It doesn't matter if they have the same needs. If they would not be in the same locality in the wild they should not mix. End of story. My opinion though....If you really want to chance it then you go right ahead. You wouldn't have posted this question if you didn't have some reservations about it.

Why can't they be in separate enclosures right next to each other? You can buy an enclosure for $10 (Rubbermaid) and put the Greeks stuff in it from their regular enclosure. You are assuming they get along, there is enough space in the enclosure, and disregarding the fact that this could kill them both.

Oh, and age has nothing to do with it. Neither does captive bred, etc. It's only a species issue.

Dutton, Kate is right, you should not place the two torts together. It is the life of both torts that you would place in jeopardy. Set up a temporary enclosure for the small Greek next to your Sully. Your parents should still be able to care for them both as they will be side by side. Explain to your parents it is for the health of the tortoises and I am sure as long as all they have to do is feed and water it should be fine.
