Has anyone ever heard of and/or seen these animals before? I heard they're getting popular in the UK. I'd never heard of them until today...

no...but they sure are beautiful.

just looked it up..... it is the Agama "Spiderman" lizard from Kenya.... seems they are the latest craze in pet lizards.

That is one cool dude! I want one. Looks like it might be a distant cousan of the Bearded Dragon.

I don't know this particular one, but there are tons of different Agamid lizards out there in the pet trade.

The bearded dragon is an agamid as are many Old World lizards. They are basically Old World equivalents of New World iguanids.

Oh wow. It really doesn't make sense why only the head is a different color; it wouldn't camouflage well that way, would it in their native land of Africa? I wonder if it's only male who have those flashy heads? wikipedia says they bob their heads to impress females. :D
