Alfalfa as a substrate

Hey Guys,

do you guys prefer to use alfalfa as a susbtrate for leopards or cypress mulch?

Well, since you can't moisten alfalfa without it growing mold, I prefer cypress mulch of the two choices. But if I had my own choice, I would use fine grade orchid bark.

Please read the care sheet pinned at the top of the leopard section. We have new info on caring for leopard tortoises, and alfalfa substrate is old info.

Thanks, i used to keep them back in college now working a few leopards back and wanna make sure i get all up to date info on them.

When I had absolutely no idea what I was doing(and I still have so so much to learn yet) I had put Timothy Hay in his hide. Since I could not moisten it, it was incredibly dry and dusty. I did not like it.

yea that is what i used in the past, a mixture of hay and alfalfa 20 years ago, i know i lot has changed since then and nutrition and information is now more advanced.

Thanks for the info, I have read all the articles. I just always wanna make sure to cover my bases.

Follow the care of this forum and ask if you don't understand something and we will help you get your bases all covered for you correctly. Most of the stuff you knew or did 20 years ago is wrong or outdated.
