Hello. I have read on here, and other places, that people give their russians aloe plants to eat. I just had a question about it....is it the plant itself they eat, or is it the leaves (didnt think the plant had actual leaves)....like the stuff with the goo in it? and the goo is safe for them to eat? Just seemed odd to me...

The leaves (stuff with the goo :D ) is safe for them to eat. However be aware that that "goo" is high water content, so will usually loosen the stools your tortoise does. One reason this is a food item normally suggested for feeding to a tortoise who may be constipated or blocked.

I have a russian and a leopard that eat the :goo" leaves. It's planted in their outdoor pens and they eat from it often, but only a few bites each time. They seem to know naturally to eat a variety when they are in pens with lots and lots to eat. ;)

If you plan to feed some leaves to your tort while indoors keep in mind they are high in water so offer sparingly and not often.
