I found this article today on LLLReptile while trying to figure out if orchid bark and repti bark were the same thing.
I found it very informative on the concept of substrate and the similarities / differences of the major 3 that most people with tortoises are using.

Thanks for posting that, Alexio. Explains it quite well. The only thing I would add is the reason I buy orchid bark is because orchid plants are very sensitive, so orchid bark is quite clean.

I like the idea of buying some of each kind to give each a try and determine which works best for you.
