Yes it is...after he was about half way done with his spring mix I put down the mazuri and he ran across his plate.
No I don't always take him out maybe twice a week so he can stretch his legs more. I bring an extra heat lamp down too so in case he gets cold for whatever reason he can sit under it for a bit.
