I have run across multiple sources (even from Zoos) that say Rads consume some animal protein in the wild. Just wanted to see what experience keepers and breeders think of this. Do any of you guys provide protein on occasion?

Radiateds come from a very dry and parched habitat with little food and resources. In a place like this IMO flesh would be too nutritious to go to waste and I don't find it too difficult to believe that radiateds consume animal protein in the wild. However, I don't suggest feeding any amounts to them voluntarily as we don't know how MUCH animal protein they consume in the wild and feeding excessive amounts will do more harm than good.
Here's a pic of their natural habitat if you're interested:

I don't see it as a necessity in captivity either way as the torts have access to plenty of food on a daily basis via human hands feeding them.

I have fed mazuri just a handfull of times in 9 years of having mine. Never any animal protein. Just lots of cactus grass and greens.

Yeah they are doing great! Have incredible personality. Especially the male. They are like puppies and like to have their heads rubbed
