With Johnny getting older I want to get him outside more. Ants have always been a hassle. I am always having to pick him up and move him. It would be nice to make a area completely ant free. However ive been afraid of using anything toxic. And how long does it actually take for the boric acid thing to work? Its too cold now outside but I want it to be ready for warm weather coming. Id like to start treating now.

For fire ants? Amdro ant granules work well. Pour it directly on the hill and don't let the tortoise have access to the poison. The ants will carry it away. Metal or plastic baskets that are staked or weighted down are a good way to keep the product away from other animals while the ants work on it. Radiate out from the pen and exterminate them from your tortoise pen out. Push them back off of your property if possible. Stay after it. he ants don't take a day off ever.

Great thanks. Yes we aren't able to have fences on yard at the moment so going to make a "Flower Garden" lol in the meantime. Easiest I have found is the cynder block enclosure. So trying to treat the area now before ordering the blocks to put down. Not letting him outside permanently yet but want to be able to leave him outside for few hrs in afternoons.
