My tortoise has had a series of fortum injections for RNS but now the vets have said that it could be viral and have stopped the injections and now have told me to wait it out. What I am asking is, is there anything I can do to aid my tortoises recovery? He/she is a 1 and a 1/2 year old hermanns.

All I can think of is to keep warm & hydrated. Good luck, hopefully someone will have a better answer for you.

Did the vet test the mucous to determine that there really is an infection? Most runny nose symptoms are not caused by an infection, but rather by stress. If you keep the tortoise in a warm, stress-free environment, the symptoms usually go away.

Is Charlie an outside tortoise? If not, then set him up outside where he can get real sunshine. Make a safe habitat where you don't have to keep your eye on him, and just leave him alone to be a tortoise.

Keep the tort in a warmer environment (no lower than 80 degrees both day and night)....soak the tort at least once a day for 30 minutes in a warm water soak...and outside time is beneficial not only for the physical needs but for the mental health of the tort....

What type of substrate do you house the tort on? How long have you had the tort? Where did you acquire the tort from? Do you offer a warm humid hide as well?
