Averse effects of oxine and tortoises?

Does anyone here use oxine? If so has anyone had any adverse effects? I want to use it as a microbistat in their water and for sanitation in the non activated form, but I am having problems finding any studies with it used in chelonian or even just reptile habitats.

Why would you not just keep the water changed out a couple times a day and not use this?

I change their plates daily. However oxine is used for a lot of purposes. The product is used by the USDA, and a lot of other companies and agencies. I do not want to try it unless there has been some studies conducted that ease my concern.
