When one of my red foots got a RI the vet gave me Baytril I would give give
her a shot every day and would switch sides every day. The shot was given between the neck and front leg, vet said it stings and that the baytril was
diluted as to make it less pain full. It cleared up the RI but she quit eating
and have read that is common for that to happen. Weeks went by and
I would give her baby food soaks and after offering her about anything I could
think of she started eating mazuri tortoise food. She made a full recovery
but if I had to do it again I would try another drug.
I use Baytril regularly for my sick turtles/tortoises. Some people choose not to use it, but I have always had good luck and no side effects (other than it can be a painful injection.) I accidentally stuck myself once with a needle and it did sting!
The vet gave him first shot but I have to give it to him orally I got to make him mad to get him to open his mouth he's going hate me by time this is done
Very necrotic and appetite suppressant. Unless a true diagnosis is determined it can be of more harm than beneficial. Baytril is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is commonly prescribed as an initial treatment. Our experience has been for a vet to complete a blood test and culture the infection for proper identification, baytril is not effective unless the infection is sensitive to baytril.
Are they giving you it because it has been diagnosed with a respiratory
infection? are you going to get your red foot to open its mouth, I could
not get my red foot mouth open and would have been impressed if someone
could without hurting her. When giving her the injections I knew that she
was getting the full amount and wonder if I could have gave it to her orally
if she would have swallowed it.
I agree with ALDABRA, You should have your tort tested first. I myself am not fond of baytril at all in my experiences with it. It is a very harsh drug.
