I recently received my third russian in a trade a few weeks ago. When I got him his shell was so nice and shiny. Really polished looking and still is. My other 2 russians are very dry and dull looking. I soak them and rinse them, etc but they never get that look once they are dry. Same with my sulcatas. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

Ok Ok I'm here for all the beauty questions...lol cuz I'm a "K"nock out LOL :p

I'd guess that the shiny one has a shell cream on it. (bad stuff)
Dry and dull is normal:cool:

I agree, the new tort probably has some type of shell-shine on it and I have heard that is not necessarily good for them. Mine all are dry and dull when they are clean and this is normal.:)

Or is there any way this could be a CB? My friend Shelly has one of her's that she hatched out several years ago in the same enclosure as about 4 WC. The CB's shell shines, compared to the rest. I think it also helps that this one happens to be a more blonde russian. Yet even so, she is cleaner and shinier than even the other high blondes.

I really don't know his history. But even after he digs down in the dirt, he comes out shining!

The new tortoise may have been oiled or waxed.
Many people years ago use to Oil or Wax their tortoises shell's during summertime, it is not a nice thing to do.
