I have cypress substrate. I am wondering if my little cherry head needs hay or some other bedding in her favorite sleeping area, or if the cypress substrate her half-log sits on is sufficient. Thank you.

I used spagnum moss, with cocopeat, ratio is about 70% moss 30 % coco, they love to burrow after they eat and a little walk, humity is on 89% to 99%, they don' t used the pot hide anymore, they just burrow

Do you put that mixture in the whole enclosure or just the area where they sleep?

Is that ideal humidity? I thought 80% was sufficient or is it not enough?

Yes 80 is enough, some say more the better so i increase my, in our place normal humidity inside the house is around 70% , so the encolsure has higher, i mixed spagnum n cocopeat, place it all over they enclosure, you can add cyplesh also, they usually burrows in the dark part of enclosure, i place more moss in there

Tort don't actually need a different substrate to sleep like we need a bed. Cypress is just fine for the as long as they can kind of dig a little hole and settle down nicely, they'll be comfortable. If you want you can place moss inside the hide and they may or may not like it... it's really a temperament kinda thing.

On the humidity thing, 80% is just fine. Just keep your temps up!

I also use cypress, but am switching to sphagnum peat. I put a big bunch of moss in two corners, and my little one loves to hide and sleep in,on,under the moss...i put some in a flower pot as well, and at first the tort didnt go in at all, but now hes in there all the time. Maybe your tort will like it as well? Heres a couple examples
