I went outside this morning and saw that one of my cats left a half eaten bird on my backyard steps, I did not pick it up and dispose of it. I opened the door for the redfoots to get out and Bigred was the first out. I went back inside and forgot about the bird. when I came out later Bigred was eating the bird and heard her crunching down on the bones. That is actually healthy for an egg laying female to eat.

We used to have a member who was a turkey rancher. When a turkey would die (the healthy ones), she would just toss it in with her tortoises.

Some tortoises will eat all kinds of things in the wild when they are roaming, its good protein

There are always nests in the trees in my yard, and many babies have fallen into the Tortoise garden and the box turtle garden. I always see the box turtles eating a tiny baby and many times I've seen Pio and Solo eating baby birds too. I can't watch so I have to run inside.

These were chicks that they raise to sell for Thanksgiving, ect.., not adult birds.

As memory serves they were young redfooted tortoises. She had a couple tortoises I believe. I would have guessed maybe a couple of times a month? She raised large number of the chicks to grow to adults for Thanksgiving.I also think she may have frozen some bodies to be fed out at alater date, so it was more spread out.
