Hi I have a 9 year old Russian, and he lately has been biting at his half log hide...He has a cuttlebone but I can't attract him to it? What should I do?

What sort of heating, lighting and UV are you using?

I have no idea what your second post was asking. Can you try again with caps and punctuation please?

He may be trying to simply maintain his beak....maybe you can add a couple pieces of slate or a smooth river rock (of course large enough that he can not ingest the rock)...this will give him places to bite/file down his beak....

If you have glass that he is trying to bang into the you can tape some type of picture or paper around the bottom half of the enclosure glass outside so he can not see and that may lessen the stress of head banging....and torts become pacers when forced in captive environment....just what they do--does not always last forever and for some it does...

What size enclosure is he in? Are you using any red bulbs? Coil type UV bulbs?

His enclosure is way to small, and in building another one... I also take him out a lot. His lighting is fine UVB and a purple heat lamp. I check the temps. I'm not too worried since he will get a new cage soon... Thx

The purple heat lamp is your problem. Switch to a regular incandescent for day time and a CHE for night time. Or just use a CHE all the time and a florescent tube for light. What sort of UV are you using? The coil bulbs can damage their eyes. If thats what you are using he may be having even more trouble seeing than what the colored bulb is doing.

I use a cylindrical tube UVB light... Also my new cage will have a CHE instead. Thx

PS which CHE should I buy and if there's a link to amazon...

Also, another thing, how do I get him to eat some cuttlebone??? He just doesn't seem interested...
