Leave your tortoise alone. There's a limit to how much handling some tortoises can take.

To tortoises you're either a predator that likes toying with your food (aka the tortoise) or you're the bringer of foods and janitor to their enclosure. Minimal handling is best. In time maybe you will be able to work your way into their good side. That would largely depend on the individual tortoise and their temperament.

Don’t hand feed. You get seen as the food. They aren’t very clever.

Put the food on a piece of flat rock or slate and walk away.
