Okay the temps are always at 90 and humidity is hard to keep stable which is why I got the fogger

I know you came over to ask just about the plastron. But with tortoises there are so many factors that need to be taken into consideration, to determine what is actually going on if there are some abnormalities. No matter if it is behavior or physical health.

So, we have night light, day light and uvb, he got the food and water dish we also have a reptifogger to keep the humidity. He eats greens as well as hays and grass. He gets 30 -45 minutes soaks daily. We put calcium powder on his food once a week and all his food gets soaked to keep him well hydrated

He's much too dry. The substrate needs to be damp, and there should be 3-4 inches of it.

He needs a humid hide. The open log hide will not hold humidity.

Humidifiers shouldn't be used with tortoises. Maintain humidity by stopping it from floating away. You need a closed chamber.

Soaks are excellent. Keep doing that.

Hay is not appropriate for babies. Save that for when he's closer to 12-14 inches. Grasses are great. Grocery store greens need to be amended. That is all explained in the care sheet.

His plastron looks like that because he's growing up in a desert. He should be growing up in a tropical grassland monsoon season.

This a great tub to use for your baby. It just needs a few minor adjustments. Did you hang onto the lid for the tub? Cut some holes in the lid and line the holes with kitchen foil. Position the lights/heat over the holes, closing them off with the fixtures so no air can escape past them. You can buy a couple light stands to put over the tub on the outside of it:

Get some plants (you can keep them in the pots) and sink them down into the substrate. Babies need lots of cover, plus, the 'cover' helps maintain humidity.

Pour a pitcherful of water over the substrate and mix it up with your hand. Don't worry that you may have poured in too much and have a bit of standing water. It will eventually evaporate and you'll need to add more.

I know having your cute little baby all closed up inside a no-see-through container isn't much fun for the observer, but it's the very best accommodations for your baby. Baby sulcatas hatch out in the monsoon season, and the reason you don't see any baby tortoises when watching nature shows is because they are all hiding. One NEVER sees a baby tortoise out in the open, because if he DOES venture out into the open, this is what you, the observer will see:



If you want your tortoise's shell to go back to being smooth, he needs to live in a warm, humid environment.

Lol I will definitely start weighing once a month I will say he grew from when I first got him he was like 2oz. I was just concerned about the bottom. He’s super active. I do only feed him every other day. Should I feed him more often?

Yes. Torts in the wild graze every day. Feed him every day about the size of his shell as if it was being used as a scoop. If he eats it all, feed him a little more.

They need daily fresh green food every morning and left in all day, remove old food around 18.00 and fresh water replenished morning and evening in a dish they can climb in and out of 24x7 i.e a flower pot base. Please read care sheet and review the set up
