Is there a way to tell if a tortoise has previously had eggs? I know some say in humans you can tell if a woman has had a child by pitting on the inside of the pelvis (though it is VERY unreliable). Is there any such thing for tortoises? I am assuming no but was wondering about it today so thought I would ask.

Are you talking any tortoise or your female Hingeback?

You can never tell for sure. But if your female was adult size when you got her and she has no new growth, than chances are she has laid before.

Well I was working with her when I thought about it but I was thinking for any tortoise. I figured there would be no way to tell for sure but thought I would ask.

Along the same lines I read somewhere (I can't remember where now, I think it might have been a reptile magazine) that female tortoises can hold sperm for up to 5 years. Has anyone ever heard of this?
