Hi hi, I have a 40 year old Sulcata. Wondering if she can have Broccolini like one bunch. Not like every day. Just picked it up from the grocery store. Thanks for your help!
Its not toxic, but its also not a great tortoise food. A little bit once a while will do no harm.Hi hi, I have a 40 year old Sulcata. Wondering if she can have Broccolini like one bunch. Not like every day. Just picked it up from the grocery store. Thanks for your help!
Totally fair! I got her when I was 12 and was told she was 10-15 so I just roll with it. I was born in 1981. I’ve had her about 28 years so since 1993. So I guess she could have been 28 years but she was big then not a baby at all.Its not toxic, but its also not a great tortoise food. A little bit once bit a while will do no harm.
Also, Sulcatas weren't widely avaialbe in this country until the early 90s, so its very unlikely that your torotise is 40 Yeats old. Have you had it since 1981?
That's still a really long time! What size was she when you got her in '93?Totally fair! I got her when I was 12 and was told she was 10-15 so I just roll with it. I was born in 1981. That would normally be 1-2 years old at that time. You got one of the first ones that was available to the public. I got my first one in '91. That's pretty cool that you still have her. I'd love to see pics.I might have to ask my parents to check, but from my memory around 10”

Here ya goThank you for the pics! I suspect she might be a he. Want to find out? Hold your tortoise with her carapace against your chest and her head facing the sky. Then have someone snap a close up of the anal scutes and tail. Like this:

That’s amazing! I can’t even see a tail there. Thanks for the info. Your posts are so helpful. Thanks for what you do.The anal scutes are a bit ambiguous, but the tail size and plastron concavity can't lie. Its a boy!
Here is what the anal scutes and tail look like on a female:
