Bummed and confused

Found one of my female Russians dead this evening. She hibernated for 15 weeks. Lost very little weight. Has been up for 3 weeks. No visible illness or injury. She has been active since getting up, and has been gaining weight. She had white discharge around her mouth. Not a lot, just a little. Her neck was extended like she was maybe having difficulty breathing, but her nostrils are open and clear. I do not understand. I have never lost a Russian before. She was a rescue that I have had for about 3 years.

So very sorry. Without a necropsy you'll never know. Could be as simple as something stuck in her throat too something in her years before you.

So sorry for your loss :-( Could it be as simple as her choking on something? I haven’t seen this in torts, but the discharge and neck stretching is typical of other animals’ reaction in this situation.

So sorry! I couldn't imagine the feeling of losing a tort! Is it possible that she ate a weed or poisonous food after coming out of hibernation? White discharge and sudden death sounds like she may have accidentally eaten something toxic.

A few years back I lost a LTC male fine in the morning dead in the evening. No clue no wound, nothing. Only thing I could figure was old age, had him for about 12 years no idea how old he was when I got him.
