You won't know the sex for a few years yet, maybe 5 or more.
Laying in the dish makes it easier. He doesn't have to worry about going over the lip lol
You do feed him in his enclosure though right? He should have enough food that he can graze on and off all day.
As for a name, look up all the names of the stars and see if there is one you like?

Yes!! I just fed him for about 15 mins outside after his soak just to spend some time with him! Once he seemed a little uninterested in the food I stuck him in there with the remainder! I actually took an astronomy class in college - what a great idea!
That's even more reason to call him something from a star, you actually have interest in it with your college class.

I still love you, but I want you and everyone reading to know that you can tell the sex on a Burmese star by about 18-20 months. They grow and develop faster than most other species. I had my first hatchlings from them in hand before my group had turned five years old.
Never heard that before. That is fast. Thanks for the info. Now if only all species could mature that fast lol.
My first Burmese Star clutch was laid 9/27/18 from a female that hatched 3/29/14. Almost exactly 4-1/2 year old.
One of my pancakes laid fertile eggs at 3-1/2 years old.
What is the earliest sulcata? I can't remember getting fertile eggs before 7 years old at the earliest.
Yes, usually at 3 years is when I think most can be sexed, unless very poor stunted early growth. My rescue leopard took much longer.
I see now I put 5 years above, should have been 3 or longer.
So, as long as I'm here. Is it both Stars or just the Burmese?

Wasn't as anal about record keeping when I was raising sulcatas to breeding age. That was a long time ago! As I recall it was 8 years old for my youngest female.
I've hatched Indians and cared for them as babies and as adults, but never raised them up from babies to maturity, so I don't know the answer.
I can normally sex my Burmese Stars at 2-1/2 years (500g) if kept properly with good growth. I have not kept Indian stars but as I recall we were able to sex @NorCal tortoise guy 's at about 2-1/2 years when he raised a group.
