So are there any edible cactus for a tortoise that could be grown in a container? I would love to grow my own. I'm sure I would keep its size in check by harvesting pads occasionally. Is there only one kind that is edible for tortoises?

Yes, as far as I know any opuntia can be grown in a pot. In Oregon there are some that can even survive your winters if kept under a clear cover and off the ground so the soil stays relatively dry. Here on the east coast where I'm located I grow many different types of opuntia in the ground and in pots that survive our very cold and wet winters without ant kind of protection. We had a unusually cold winter this year and I lost one that was over 10 years old and some damage to others but will survive.
