Someone gave it to us because their original had grown many new shoots. Not sure what type of plant and if safe to plant in an outdoor enclosure. Thanks for your help.

A bromeliad of some sort. Probably pretty tropical and unable to withstand very cold weather. Usually they have water inside the cup where that flower stem comes out. From my friend, Google:

  1. Provide bright light without direct sun exposure.
  2. Maintain optimal humidity.
  3. Keep air flowing around the plants.
  4. Make sure the plants stay moist but not soggy.
  5. Provide adequate drainage.
  6. Fertilize sparingly.

Oh ok, thanks! I’m going to see if the family who gave it to us has an exact name for the plant. I was under the impression it was kept outside, but will check.
